Cold conditions can reduce dexterity and change how easily you reach full draw. Warm up properly and do not force tired or cold muscles through the shot.

Dress for the string

Use layers that keep you warm without loose fabric entering the bowstring path. Secure sleeves and hoods where necessary.

Protect hands and equipment

Keep fingers warm between ends and check tabs, nocks and strings. Wet or frozen ground also changes footing and range safety.

Expect changes

Your sight mark and group may move as temperature and clothing change. Prioritise safe, repeatable shooting over chasing a normal warm-weather score.

Further reading and club guidance

Use this guide alongside coaching, the club risk assessment and the current rules for the round or event you are shooting. Safety instructions from the field captain, coach or judge always take priority.
