Bare-shaft tuning compares unfletched arrows with matching fletched arrows. It can reveal useful setup information, but only when the archer is grouping consistently enough for the comparison to mean something.
Prepare matching shafts
The bare shafts should match the fletched arrows in shaft, point and nock specification as closely as practical.
Shoot a group
At a sensible distance, shoot several fletched arrows and bare shafts using the same shot routine. Look for a repeatable relationship, not one unusual arrow.
Interpret carefully
Nocking point, arrow spine, button pressure and centre shot can affect the result. Handedness also affects how some left/right indications are interpreted. Change one setting at a time.
