Hull Archery Club Badges and Challenges: The Complete Guide

Hull Archery Club badges are designed to give archers something enjoyable to work towards at every stage. The club uses a progressive-distance system: each member displays one of each badge, with the greatest distance at which that achievement has been completed shown underneath. Repeating the same achievement at a shorter distance does not create another badge. Achieving it farther away upgrades the distance.

252 Challenge

Shoot 36 arrows. Only 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 score. A total of 252 or more earns the 252 badge at that distance.

Portsmouth score badges

A completed Portsmouth challenge can earn the 300, 350, 400, 450, 475, 500 and 600 badges. Awards are cumulative: a score of 475 qualifies for 300, 350, 400, 450 and 475 if those levels have not already been achieved at that distance. Each badge records the member's furthest successful distance.

Single-end achievements

• Perfect End: six Xs in one complete end.
• Sergeant Major: one each of 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and X in a six-arrow end, in any order.
• Golden Apple: at least three arrows in yellow in one end.
• Golden Compass: at least four in yellow.
• Golden Eagle: at least five in yellow.
• Golden Dice: all six in yellow.
• Bee: every arrow in the end is either black or yellow, with at least one black and at least one yellow. No other colour may appear. The numerical score is irrelevant.

Manual and photo-approved badges

• Perfect X: an arrow directly in the dead centre of the X.
• Expert Marksman: an arrow splits another arrow straight down the shaft.
• Woodpecker: a fun booby prize for missing the target and sticking an arrow into the wooden stand or legs.
• Jammy Shot: a fun booby prize for an unusual or improbable shot, such as an arrow lodged in a strap. Claims are judged by the club, including their comedic value.
• Edge Master: on a full-size target face, the arrow lands in the straw or boss but misses the paper face completely.
• Rainbow 300: shoot 300 or more in the Portsmouth-style challenge on a target face folded in half to form a rainbow.

Manual badges require club approval because an ordinary score cannot prove what physically happened. Photo evidence can be submitted with the distance and a short description.
