The nocking point controls where the arrow sits on the string and affects how the arrow leaves the bow. It needs to be secure and repeatable.
Set a baseline
Use a bow square to establish a sensible starting position relative to the rest. Fit the nocking point securely without damaging the serving.
Check arrow fit
The nock should clip onto the string consistently and release without excessive force. Nock fit and serving diameter matter.
Fine adjustment
Once grouping is consistent, bare-shaft behaviour and arrow flight can help indicate whether the nocking point needs a small change. Move it in small steps and record the original position.
